I am a British Wheel of Yoga accredited teacher & a Yoga Alliance Professionals Senior Teacher with a BSc in Sports Science & Sports Psychology.
I have been teaching yoga classes for over 15 years and am experienced in teaching students of all ages, abilities, experience, and fitness. My class content is based on sound scientific knowledge from both my yoga teacher training and my sports science and sports psychology studies.
The focus of each class is different each week and covers a range of yoga experiences from strengthening and flexibility movements and postures, to relaxation techniques, to joint-freeing and mobilising, to balance and stability. Classes also work on conditioning the muscles of the torso and postural muscles in functional movements. Your muscles are worked in all planes of movement to replicate the demands placed on the body in your daily living and in physical activities.
All of my yoga classes are suitable for everyone (including complete beginners) as I ensure that all postures and practices are modified for you as an individual.
To guide the practice of those who wish to have a more specific class level in terms of current health and fitness I offer different types of yoga classes: Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Gentle Yoga, and Yoga For All Abilities. These classes will improve your health, well-being and fitness at a level which is appropriate to you. In addition to the physical benefits, learning how to live your life with yoga will also improve your resilience and ability to deal with life’s challenges.
This is a class particularly suited for those who wish to avoid some of the stronger postures or who have health conditions which means they need to keep their exercise gentler or slower. The focus is on gentle hatha yoga to mobilise your joints, strengthen muscles, improve balance and lower stress responses.
Yoga For All Abilities
This is a class, as the name suggests, suitable for all ages, level of experience, and abilities or fitness. Classes include hatha yoga for strengthening, stretching and mobilising movements and postures, relaxation practices, and breath awareness. Modifications can be offered to increase or decrease challenge for you as needed.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
This is a guided or self-led class according to your experience and ability. The Ashtanga series is a stronger, flowing practice which follows a set sequence. The sequence is designed to build strength, stamina and increase flexibility and is particularly suitable for those with an existing level of fitness who enjoy the developing challenge of the sequence. You don’t need to be super fit to enjoy this class but without some level of fitness you may find yourself better suited to one of my other classes.
